"Diapräsentation" has moved

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Sat, 15 Aug 2020 20:01:09 +0200

“Diapräsentation” has moved and is now part of Projektemacher.org . This makes it the first of my old Tumblr blogs to be migrated to Hugo .

The old Tumblr page will remain, since there may still be some links pointing to it…

About this blog

Diapräsentationen was a project to fill the summer holidays of 2013 a little, which is why it has not been extended since the project was completed. Originally hosted on Tumblr , it moved to Projektemacher.de in the summer of 2020.

Flea Market Finds

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Fri, 23 Oct 2015 00:07:17 +0000

In the area of slides I haven’t done much for about a year now, so there is now a new blog with my best finds from flea markets and junk shops in and around Göttingen.

Outlook

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Wed, 25 Jun 2014 19:44:24 +0000

Over the next few days a few more entries will appear in this blog that I have been too lazy to write so far, but then that’s it for here for the time being. New projects are already waiting — here is a blurry (on purpose) image as a preview:

Stereo, just differently…

Talk

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Sun, 25 May 2014 19:53:00 +0000

Another flea market find has slipped into my net. Apparently there were ready-made slide talks in the GDR, simply delivered as a set of slides and audio tapes. Plainly declared as mass propaganda. If you can say more about this, please write via the “Ask” function above. I would love to learn more about it…

Whether I will now go and acquire a tape recorder for this, I don’t know yet.

Screen

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Sun, 25 May 2014 19:33:00 +0000

A visit to the local flea market has led to some interesting new acquisitions. A screen!

(The spots in the picture are dirt on the lens)

The “Perlwand 125” by Brillant was originally ordered for 47.50 DM from Neckermann, as can be seen from the original packaging.

Even More Slides!

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Fri, 08 Nov 2013 20:14:00 +0000

After a " mishap" on the part of my landlord’s property management brought me to the Göttingen recycling yard for the first time today, I can understand more and more the fascination for the supposedly old, for the “garbage”. So my collection now includes motifs on the theme of starting school, presumably from the early 90s. As well as the work of probably two photographers:

Travel pictures from Greece and the Alps, with an interest in aeroplanes, probably their own VW bus, the concrete bunkers emerging at the time, and massive overexposure. Hard to date, 70s or 80s
A similar period, though rather underexposed, family pictures

The former is of course particularly well suited for presenting text in front of it, the latter might be usable as an in-between image…

New Slides and Slide Mounts

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Wed, 06 Nov 2013 21:02:00 +0000

The slide enthusiast Thomas Heinemann has once again provided me with a set of slides. This time: “The Holy Land”. With beautiful excavation motifs that can surely be put to good use for a talk on software refurbishment some day — and along with it came a whole lot of empty mounts, into which I can now assemble better fixed compositions of text and images myself. Unfortunately I had another appointment and therefore couldn’t stay to finish watching the great movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou? ” with him.

Here are the first two “foils”:

Findings:

Grey doesn’t work.
Anything below font size 26 in PowerPoint doesn’t work.
Plastic mounts are the best suited.
You don’t need to leave a margin in PowerPoint.

The Result

Under Mac OS X the presentation can be “printed” as a PDF quite easily from PowerPoint. The individual pages of the file can then be “placed” in InDesign quite simply. Here is the result:

The Presentation

The experiment needs content. I thought for a long time about what it could be — at one point the idea was to bring together several other old ideas for a database and turn them into a concept (in one of the previous posts I linked to Google, because the Rollei P 355 has no URI, this urgently needs to be changed!), but considering the vacation about to end, that was too ambitious. So the first presentation will be an introduction of the very idea pursued here, which will also show what is actually feasible. Hence the following requirements for the first slide presentation:

Getting an Overview

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Tue, 27 Aug 2013 04:25:00 +0000

The author received about 500 slides together with the projectors. How do you get an overview of them? How do you find the right motifs? Unfortunately there is only one way: look at all of them…

A setup made of a webcam and a projector lends itself to this, see below.

The next step is then to manage and tag the images in a suitable program.

The first choice was supposed to be Picasa — the Windows version also offers capture via webcam. Unfortunately it was not possible to make this version work with the webcam under Wine or VirtualBox . Under VirtualBox, a five-year-old bug stood in the way.

The Template

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Fri, 23 Aug 2013 22:19:00 +0000

The window of a slide mount has a size of 36mm x 24mm. To insert the foils from PowerPoint, a corresponding template is needed. The template below was created with InDesign — the PDF files that can be produced with PowerPoint fit nicely into it.

The Equipment

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Thu, 22 Aug 2013 01:25:00 +0000

The working material has arrived: two projectors and about 500 slides! The projectors are a Braun Paximat and a Rollei P355 .

The Paximat is the older and thus more representative one, the Rollei “faster” and therefore well suited for viewing and cataloguing.

Special thanks at this point also go to the generous donor, the flea market expert and slide enthusiast Thomas Heinemann!

The Beginning

mail@christianmahnke.de (Christian Mahnke) — Thu, 15 Aug 2013 22:03:00 +0000

Vacation! The right time to implement a few old ideas. My interior design has now been completed (wardrobe). So something a bit more daring — since the whole thing seems to work, it’s time to document the result.

The Idea

PowerPoint and projectors are no longer anything special these days. Impress? Well…

It’s time for something new again. And as always, when you’re lacking creativity, you simply reach for something old to suggest something new. With this tried-and-tested method, the author does not want to be an exception.
